The Holland Lops

Breed History

The Holland Lop was developed in Holland in 1949, they are the smallest of the lop breeds. Developed from a cross of the Netherland Dwarfs and French Lops with the idea of creating a smaller French lop, however they have been developed into the bunny they are today in the 1960s. Holland Lops were introduced into the United States in 1976 and became an established breed in the US Rabbit World in 1979.

Holland Lops have small flat ears, they should fall down near their cheeks. They are designed to appear with a sturdy bone structure but should remain under 4lb to be showable, however, not all Hollands are under 4lb and could grow up to 5lb. They should be 1 part Head and 2 parts Body, with a smooth but tall shape, and short sturdy legs.

Holland Lops are one of the most popular rabbits in North America and it is clear to see why. Their small loveable stature makes them excellent pets, especially for those new to owning pet bunnies. They are well known for their social and affectionate nature, being a smaller breed means they do not need as much space as larger breeds and are more accommodative in the house.
